Solution-processable amorphous glassy polymers of intrinsic microporosity (PIMs) are promising microporous organic materials for membrane-based gas and liquid separations due to their high surface area internal free volume, thermal chemical stability, excellent separation performance. This review provides an overview the most recent developments in design transport properties novel ladder PIM materials, polyimides (PIM–PIs), functionalized PIMs PIM–PIs, PIM-derived thermally rearranged (TR), carbon molecular sieve (CMS) membrane as well PIM-based thin film composite membranes a wide range energy-intensive separations.
